About this Project

This project was developed in Spring 2025 as a Data Science Capstone collaboration with the Group Against Smog & Pollution (GASP). The Looker Studio dashboard maps facilities and analyzes air quality violations and associated fines issued against steel and coke facilities in southwestern Pennsylvania between 2020 and 2024.

This dashboard was the result of a highly collaborative, team-based effort built alongside five other undergraduate students. We collaborated with GASP stakeholders to gather requirements and refine the dashboard content around their advocacy goals.

The dashboard provides an interactive look at the nature of these violations (such as exceedances of emission limits and operational failures) and visualizes the millions of dollars in fines levied against major polluters like U.S. Steel's Clairton Coke Works and Edgar Thomson Plant.
